InterMEDIU Bucharest is a Science Shop founded within a Matra program (2002 – 2005) with support from Science Shop RUG. Its staff consists of voluntary members (faculty staff and students). Science Shop InterMEDIU activities are focused mainly on: o environmental citizen science events related to environmental awareness and education; o youth training programs on environmental issues; o developing a collaborative network between universities and other educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, economic operators, but also individuals; o participation in various national and international projects; o systematic involvement of civil society and the scientific community in a dialogue and in setting up a research agenda for students. The main stakeholders involved in InterMEDIU’s Science Shop activities are: o non-governmental organisations; o educational establishments; o public administration; o civil society; o citizens. InterMEDIU carries out research in various subjects (waste water, waste management, soil pollution, air pollution, etc.) based on the community requests and needs, offers information and consultancy on environmental issues, health, and occupational safety. Working with students, one of the main goals of InterMEDIU science shop is to increase students’ awareness on the role of science in society and improved multi-disciplinary- and problem-solving skills of students. The increasing of international contacts, both methodological and scientific, was a consequence of the worldwide interest for knowledge transfer to civil society level.
