The METACITIES Network is an international city network focused on smart city development. It is an overall meta-network linking partners from various fields of work. METACITIES is convinced that smart technologies play a key role on the way into a more sustainable future. Especially for increasing quality of life in urban areas and a responsible and careful use of resources intelligent solutions are essential.

Therefore, METACITIES brings together industry and research and enables optimal cooperation between the two parties. Despite different orientations, the field of industry and the research sector are moving in the same direction and can profit from each other’s experiences.

Since all good ideas need someone to implement them, METACITIES is a matchmaker in the smart city sector. It brings together all kinds of key players in the smart city development including city administration, institutions, transportation companies, energy and water suppliers, smart solution vendors and other parties in the smart city development. Because only an efficient cooperation between all responsible parties enables a sustainable and profound realization of smart city concepts.

Working in the diverse field of smart cities, METACITIES positions itself in the context of social science as well as in the IT sector working on the interconnection of the two areas. In doing so, METACITIES is trend-oriented and focused on innovation and future prospects. The network operates in the interests of Horizon 2020, the EU program for research and innovation.
